After School Program

When students are not participating in a specific after school class or activity, they can relax in a quiet setting and read, explore resources, do homework, create artwork, build, do puzzles, and play games. Healthy snacks are provided and help with school work is also available. These Choice Time activities are included in the Full After School Program and Three Days Per Week After School Program.

* Karate has a separate registration fee that covers the full year of membership with the World Martial Arts Association, a uniform and a belt. Registration and payment for this activity is done through this link.

** Swimming is a limited capacity and an additional cost that is not included with after school program enrollment. This activity is being offered through the YMCA Staten Island, which provides lifeguards and instructors. Bay Ridge Prep is facilitating additional supervision and transportation. Registration and payment for this activity is done through this link.

This clinic teaches younger students the basics of basketball and the importance of teamwork. Facilitated by our athletics coaches, basketball clinics are a great way to learn the sport at a young age while experiencing the value of working together and having fun as a team!

Grades 5 & 6: Fridays, 3pm – 4pm

This FREE activity is sponsored by our Athletics Department for our 5th and 6th Grade Tigers who want to gain experience being part of a basketball team before being able to compete in interscholastic sports in our athletics league. Grades 5-8: Thursdays, 3pm – 4pm

Get ready to roar with the fierce spirit of the Bay Ridge Prep middle school cheer team! We are looking for students who demonstrate teamwork, dedication, and enthusiasm to help us rally the school! From dancing and tumbling to crafting spirited chants, the Tigers cheerleaders bring energy and excitement to the sidelines, inspiring their fellow students and fans alike. Prepare to bring your athleticism and school pride to school events! This activity is led by Libby Jancsy and prior dance and cheer experience is not required. 

Grades K-2: Thursdays, 3pm – 3:45pm

National Chess Master Bah Hodzhamkulyyev teaches students the basics of chess, how to think ahead to their next steps while encouraging engagement and sportsmanship. Small tournaments are organized within the class setting with students having the opportunity to participate in monthly tournaments in the NYC area.

Gr. 6-8: Mondays, 3pm-4pm

Led by Fullstack Engineer Farrah Unger, this class provides students with a first look at coding and programming. The Coding Fundamentals class introduces students to the world of programming and computational thinking. The class is designed to build a foundation in coding concepts and uses interactive lessons and hands-on projects so that students learn to write simple programs, solve problems, and understand the basics of how software operates.

Each week, Lower School teacher Nicole DiCamillo leads our youngest after schoolers in a fun and engaging arts and crafts activity. This fun environment helps children’s creativity grow while they practice the basic elements of art and enjoy drawing, painting, using pencils, watercolors, acrylics, markers, paints and lots of glue!

Grade K-2: Tuesdays, 3pm-4pm

Taught by Upper School Teacher and Park Slope Performing Arts Owner, Ms. Rebecca Rice, this is a one hour beginner musical theatre and movement class set to music from popular Disney and children’s movies. Join the fun and dance with us as we go under the sea, off to Never Land, into the unknown, and to infinity and beyond!

Grade K-2: Mondays, 3pm-4pm

Taught by Upper School Teacher and Park Slope Performing Arts Owner, Ms. Rebecca Rice, this one hour class incorporates beginner ballet with creative play and storytelling. The class includes a floor warmup, ballet center work, and a component of storytelling and pretend play. 

Grades K-2: Wednesdays, 2:45pm – 3:15pm

Grades 3-5: Wednesdays, 2:45pm – 3:45pm

Grades 6-8: Wednesdays, 3:15pm – 4pm

Students participate in Tae Kwon Do as a non-contact physical activity, safely learn basic self-defense, and stimulate their minds with instruction in spirit, focus, and power. Karate classes are taught by James Clifford, Erik Fezzuuoglio and Kathryn Fasano, who are all black belts in Tae Kwon Do. An additional class is available for Grades 2-8 on Fridays from 3pm to 4pm.

$500 activity fee for trimester

LIMITED CAPACITY! These swim classes are instructed by the YMCA Staten Island with transportation and additional supervision provided by Bay Ridge Prep. Students will leave the school building right after dismissal on a school bus and are taken to the YMCA at 651 Broadway on Staten Island. Groups will be separated based on experience level with instruction from the YMCA swim staff and lifeguards.

Run by Marissa Troeschel in fall and Libby Jancsy in winter and spring, this creative drama class builds on the student’s knowledge of theater and storytelling. Students are encouraged to explore, play and be part of an ensemble. Through games and dramatic exercises, students are introduced to collaborative play and ensemble building skills, which are the foundational elements of storytelling and improvisation. Students will have in-class performance opportunities based on their own original stories and characters.  

Gr. 6-8: Thursdays, 3pm – 4pm

Make art that you can wear! Learn traditional fabric-painting techniques including batik, wet on wet, stenciling, and stamping. In this class you will create unique handmade items including shirts, bags, bandanas, and jewelry. Led by Shannon Heffernan.

Grades K-1: Mondays, 3pm – 4pm

Taught by school psychologist Dr. Linda Cheung-Soogrim, this beginner class for our youngest members of the BRP community gives students the opportunity to discover new poses, learn deep breathing techniques, and practice mindfulness. Yogis will improve their flexibility, study their breath and become zen as they learn to meditate in a fun, relaxing environment!

Option 1: Full Program | $1800 per trimester ($5400/annual)

Students enrolled in the full program attend each day and participate in a daily activity for their grade level. Snacks are included. There is no additional cost for the activity except for swimming, which is facilitated by Bay Ridge Prep and run by the YMCA.

Option 2: Three Days Per Week | $1200 per trimester ($3600/annual)

Students enrolled in this option attend the same three days each week and participate in an activity for their grade level on those days. Snacks are included. There is no additional cost for the activity except for swimming, which is facilitated by Bay Ridge Prep and run by the YMCA. 

Option 3: Individual Activities Only | See activity details for rates

Students can enroll in individual activities for their grade level without enrolling in the after school program. Students enrolled only in an activity must be picked up at the conclusion of the activity.

On days of forecasted inclement weather or severe weather, the school may choose to cancel certain activities as a safety precaution for students and staff. When possible, students may be offered an alternate activity for the day. In rare instances, severe weather may lead the school to cancel all after school programs and activities. This decision will be made as early as possible on the day in question. There are no refunds for activities canceled due to poor weather.
