Athletics Director Mike Petri to be Inducted to US Rugby Foundation Hall of Fame
The US Rugby Foundation announced that Bay Ridge Prep Athletics Director Mike Petri will be inducted to their Hall of Fame Class of 2023. His dedication to the sport of rugby started while playing in high school and continued through college. He went on to represent the United States in three Rugby World Cups and was named captain of Rugby United New York during their debut Major League Rugby (MLR) season.
Mike Petri joined Bay Ridge Prep in 2018 and began leading the Athletics Department in 2022. He teaches math and science and coaches in the soccer, basketball and baseball programs. Prior to joining the Bay Ridge Prep community, Mike taught in the science and math departments as well as coached rugby and soccer at his alma mater, Xavier High School, in Manhattan. At Xavier, he also filled in as assistant athletic director on an interim basis.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and his master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing rugby, exercising, and surfing. He runs youth sports programs outside of Bay Ridge Prep and is also an on-air sports broadcaster for FOX Sports coverage of MLR games. He is the author of “R is for Rugby: An Alphabet Book”, a fully illustrated children’s book that explores the alphabet to introduce children and their families to the sport of rugby.
