Ember teaches several science courses in the Upper School, including AP Environmental Science, Honors Chemistry and Biology. Ember’s expertise and passion lies in conservation and environmental issues. As a graduate student, Ember worked to reintroduce a locally extinct aquatic insect species to the Vermilion River watershed. This research relied on DNA sequencing techniques to inform the selection of source populations in an effort to recapture native genetic diversity as her Master’s thesis project.

Ember has taught several courses at both the New York and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens as well as undergraduate course work at Iona College. She has also worked as an AP exam rater for the College Board. Her professional experience has included working as a PADI- certified SCUBA diver and freshwater ecologist controlling an invasive aquatic plant species in several lakes across New York State.

A life-long athlete, Ember coaches both the Varsity Softball in addition to playing in recreational leagues in Brooklyn. In addition to coaching after school, Ember is also the faculty moderator of the school’s GSA and serves on the school’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee.
