Middle Soccer Completes First Competitive Season
Last year welcomed the first ever Middle School soccer team, which played a few games against local schools to get the program off the ground. This year’s Fall 2022 team featured many returning student-athletes as the Tigers played their first full season in the Independent School Athletic League (ISAL).
Led by captain Amalia Rollman ‘27, the team showed spirit and heart on the field. A big win in the opening match over league rivals Churchill was capped off with a tough, fun game against Brooklyn Friends School at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 5 in the shadow of the Manhattan skyline. It was a fantastic way to send off our 8th graders a hat trick scored by Colin Bartnik ‘27 being the highlight of the day. Other student athletes that made their final Middle School soccer appearance included Peter Nakos ‘27, Petro Neamonitakis ‘27, Elliott Wallier ‘27, and Ezra Platton ‘27. Each was instrumental and part of Bay Ridge Prep history in leading our team into the ISAL for the first time.
The team practiced often this season with our Varsity High School soccer team. Several double header matches throughout the season saw the Varsity Tigers tunneling our middle school students on and off the field. It was an exciting way to build a bridge between the programs and start the process of transitioning our middle school student athletes to the next level of Bay Ridge Prep soccer. After lessons learned in our first competitive season, we look forward to our second year in the ISAL in 2023!
