After School Program

When students are not participating in a specific after school class or activity, they can relax in a quiet setting and read, explore resources, do homework, create artwork, build, do puzzles, and play games. Healthy snacks are provided and help with school work is also available. These Choice Time activities are included in the Full After School Program and Three Days Per Week After School Program.

Grades 5 & 6: Friday, 3pm – 4pm

This FREE activity is sponsored by our Athletics Department for our 5th and 6th Grade Tigers who want to gain experience being part of a baseball team before being able to compete in interscholastic sports in our athletics league.

Grades 2-4: Fridays, 3pm – 4pm

This clinic teaches younger students the basics of basketball and the importance of teamwork. Facilitated by our athletics coaches, basketball clinics are a great way to learn the sport at a young age while experiencing the value of working together and having fun as a team! These clinics take place at the nearby Salvation Army gym. Students are transported by Bay Ridge Prep to/from the facility.

Get ready to roar with the fierce spirit of the Bay Ridge Prep middle school cheer team! We are looking for students who demonstrate teamwork, dedication, and enthusiasm to help us rally the school! From dancing and tumbling to crafting spirited chants, the Tigers cheerleaders bring energy and excitement to the sidelines, inspiring their fellow students and fans alike. Prepare to bring your athleticism and school pride to school events! This activity is led by Libby Jancsy and prior dance and cheer experience is not required.

National Chess Master Bah Hodzhamkulyyev teaches students the basics of chess, how to think ahead to their next steps while encouraging engagement and sportsmanship. Small tournaments are organized within the class setting with students having the opportunity to participate in monthly tournaments in the NYC area.

Gr. 4-8: Tuesdays, 3pm-4pm

Led by Fullstack Engineer Farrah Unger, students will learn the basics of coding through fun, hands-on projects that build problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Using age-appropriate platforms and tools, they’ll explore core programming concepts like loops, conditionals, and variables while creating interactive games, animations, and more. No prior experience needed!

Each week, Lower School teacher Nicole DiCamillo leads our youngest after schoolers in a fun and engaging arts and crafts activity. This fun environment helps children’s creativity grow while they practice the basic elements of art and enjoy drawing, painting, using pencils, watercolors, acrylics, markers, paints and lots of glue!

Grades 6-8: Mondays, 3pm – 4pm

Get ready to jump into a fantasy world of magic, monsters, and mystery! In this weekly session, students will become players in the classic table-top role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons.

Each week, students will step into the role of a character they create, based in a fantastical world designed by the staff session leader. In this role, students will be presented with various events, obstacles, and personalities that they will have to navigate by considering how their imagined character might react. Whether they find themselves fighting a dragon or solving a wizard’s puzzle, students will work with their teammates to create a fun, engaging story that is totally improvised in real time. It’s an activity that wraps the engagement of playing a game, the creativity of telling a story, and the collaboration of working with a team all into one hour-long session! 

So, if you’ve ever wanted to storm a castle, throw a fireball, or steal treasure right out from under a sleeping dragon’s nose, this is the club for you!

Grades 4-7: Thursdays, 2:45pm – 5pm

$500 activity fee for trimester

A deposit is paid first to Bay Ridge Prep and final payment and registration is paid directly to Gotham Gymnastics. The program is run by Gotham Gymnastics in Park Slope and facilitated by Bay Ridge Prep. Transportation to/from Gotham Gymnastics is included. Students participate in Tae Kwon Do as a non-contact physical activity, safely learn basic self-defense, and stimulate their minds with instruction in spirit, focus, and power. Karate classes are taught by James Clifford, Erik Fezzuoglio and Kathryn Fasano, who are all black belts in Tae Kwon Do.

Zoom like Lightning, Shine like Elsa, Roar like Simba!

Step into the spotlight and bring their favorite Disney characters to life in this magical acting and performance class! Whether you dream of racing like Lightning McQueen, casting icy spells like Elsa, going on wild adventures like Moana and Maui, or roaring proudly like Simba, this class is for YOU.

We’ll play fun acting games, learn how to move, speak, and express ourselves like Disney heroes & heroines, and even create our own mini-shows inspired by their stories.

Perfect for kids who love to imagine, move, and perform — boys, girls, and everyone ready for a little bit of Disney magic!

Are you ready to step into the spotlight like Taylor Swift and belt out your favorite pop hits? In this high-energy karaoke class, you’ll sing along to today’s biggest chart-topping songs from your favorite young pop stars, from Swiftie anthems to the catchiest bops on the radio.

We’ll warm up our voices, practice with microphones, and perform with confidence and style. Whether you’re a fearless performer or just finding your voice, this is your chance to shine, have fun, and own the stage. Perfect for kids who love to sing, dance, and sparkle like the stars they are!

Taught by Park Slope Performing Arts studio owner and Upper School Teacher Rebecca Rice. 

Grades 3-6: Tuesdays, 2:45pm – 5pm, Fall & Winter Only

LIMITED CAPACITY! These swim classes are instructed by the YMCA Staten Island with transportation and additional supervision provided by Bay Ridge Prep. Students will leave the school building right after dismissal on a school bus and are taken to the YMCA at 651 Broadway on Staten Island. Groups will be separated based on experience level with instruction from the YMCA swim staff and lifeguards. 

**This program is an additional cost that is not included with after school program enrollment. This activity is being offered through the YMCA Staten Island, which provides lifeguards and instructors. Bay Ridge Prep is facilitating additional supervision and transportation.

Run by Marissa Troeschel in fall and Libby Jancsy in winter and spring, this creative drama class builds on the student’s knowledge of theater and storytelling. Students are encouraged to explore, play and be part of an ensemble. Through games and dramatic exercises, students are introduced to collaborative play and ensemble building skills, which are the foundational elements of storytelling and improvisation. Students will have in-class performance opportunities based on their own original stories and characters.  

Grades 5-7: Tuesdays, 3pm – 4pm

This clinic teaches students the fundamentals of volleyball and the importance of teamwork. Facilitated by our athletics coaches, volleyball clinics are a great way to learn the sport at a young age and develop additional skills while experiencing the value of working together and having fun as a team! 

On days of forecasted inclement weather or severe weather, the school may choose to cancel certain activities as a safety precaution for students and staff. When possible, students may be offered an alternate activity for the day. In rare instances, severe weather may lead the school to cancel all after school programs and activities. This decision will be made as early as possible on the day in question. There are no refunds for activities canceled due to poor weather.
