Kate smiles when asked why she joined the Bay Ridge Prep community. She was already a very successful elementary school teacher at P.S. 321 in Park Slope, whose classroom was used as a lab site for teachers in training from both Columbia’s Teacher College and Bank Street College of Education and never imagined changing positions until she met Dr. Fasano, whom she describes as a Pied-piper.“After I met Charlie I was completely sold,” Kate says. “Bay Ridge Prep is a school where the entire focus is fixed on teaching and learning, not politics, testing, fads or bureaucracy. I needed to be a part of that!”In addition to her position as the Director of the Lower School since 2002, Kate has served as an adjunct professor in the literacy department of Bank Street College’s Graduate School of Education.Kate has raised over $10,000 dollars for both the Leukemia Society and programs that support formerly incarcerated women by running marathons in the tri-state area. She is a quilter, writer and proud mother of two Bay Ridge Prep alums.
