Yellowstone Trip Immerses Students in Scientific Research

As part of an Intersession travel opportunity for Upper School students, Bay Ridge Prep offered an unforgettable trip to Yellowstone National Park to experience the park’s renowned Winter Ecology Program.

Students stayed at a lodge in Montana’s Paradise Valley, along the banks of the Yellowstone River. Led by biologist and Science Dept. Chair, Dr. Lisa Neesemann, in partnership with Yellowstone, students conducted field research on bison ecology, wildlife management challenges, and snow science.

Throughout the trip, students embraced the life of a scientist—cohabitating in rustic yet cozy lodge accommodations, preparing meals together, and snowshoeing through the park to collect data and observe wildlife in their natural habitat. They braved 20-degree temperatures to witness herds of bison in a breathtaking snowy landscape, but also looked forward to warming up by the fireplace after a day of adventure.

Needless to say, it was an EPIC experience! Plans are already underway for next year’s Intersession travel opportunity to Barcelona and Madrid, facilitated by the World Language Dept.
