Dr. Julie Mayring is part of the founding team of Bay Ridge Prep and currently serves as the Middle School Director. Julie holds a Ph.D. in school psychology and a New York State certification as a special education teacher. A graduate of NYU’s Stern School of Business, Julie earned her doctorate in psychology at Fordham University, where she trained under Dr. Rosa Hagin at the School Consultation Center and specialized in diagnosing and remediating learning disabilities. She was inducted into the graduate honors society Phi Kappa Phi, received the Ted Bernstein award for excellence in graduate work from the New York Association of School Psychologists, has been a member of the American Psychological Association, and is currently a member of the New York Association of School Psychologists.

 

After completing her training with the RULER curriculum, a program to develop social and emotional learning in schools, Julie worked to implement this program at Bay Ridge Prep. In 2013, Julie worked with the Yale University Center for Emotional Intelligence as a consultant, helping to develop their middle school curriculum and train others looking to develop emotional literacy programs. Over the years, her work with students and families has focused on remediating specific academic weaknesses, building self-esteem, incorporating social and emotional learning into the school day, and encouraging independence in executive functioning skills including study skills, organizational strategies, and time management. In 2019, she connected with The Social Institute and has spearheaded a social media literacy program at Bay Ridge Prep.

 

A fitness enthusiast, Julie has completed nine NYC marathons and holds a sixth degree black belt in the World Martial Arts Association. She also enjoys tennis, Pilates, and yoga. She and her husband have two wonderful children and three rescue cats.
